As an important cultural and artistic exhibition platform in the Beibu Gulf region of Guangxi, the Beihai Bihai Silk Road Grand Theatre has become a new landmark in the city with its unique marine cultural theme architectural design. The theatre covers an area of approximately 28,000 square meters and includes a main theatre with 1,200 seats and multiple multi-function halls. Its sound reinforcement system faces the following special challenges

Firstly, there are numerous curved structures and irregular decorations inside the theater building, which are prone to acoustic focusing and standing wave phenomena. Secondly, as a professional theater primarily featuring large-scale stage plays such as “Maritime Silk Road”, it needs to meet the high-fidelity playback requirements for dramatic dialogue, musical accompaniment, and special sound effects. Furthermore, the theater also needs to accommodate diverse performance formats such as concerts and dramas, requiring the system to have strong adaptability. In addition, the high humidity and high salinity marine climate in the Beihai area poses a severe test for the protection of the equipment.

The V310 adopts a three-way crossover structure with coaxial arrangement of mid-high frequencies, combined with an exclusive V-shaped driver layout, effectively improving the directional control of mid-high frequencies. Through precisely calculated wavefront formation technology, the vertical dispersion angle is controlled within 10°, significantly reducing the primary reflected sound from the ceiling and floor, and enhancing speech intelligibility by more than 15%. The system is equipped with two 10-inch neodymium magnetic chassis, each equipped with a 75mm large voice coil, ensuring low-frequency extension down to 45Hz while maintaining transient response. The mid-high frequency section utilizes an 8-inch mid-range driver combined with two 3-inch B&C compression drivers, achieving a peak sound pressure level of 142dB and a frequency response of 50Hz-18kHz (±3dB). The 90° horizontal coverage angle perfectly matches the fan-shaped plane structure of the theater, and the 10° vertical control angle achieves precise coverage of the balcony and stalls. The system supports up to 16 loudspeakers to form an arc-shaped array, adapting to the sound field requirements of different performance venues through adjustable curvature design.

The successful application of the STUDIOMASTER V310 line array system in the Beihai Bihai Silk Road Grand Theatre has set a new benchmark for the construction of professional theatre audio systems. After more than a year of actual operation, the system has perfectly supported over 200 performances of various scales.

With the application of new technologies such as digital twins, this system will continue to be upgraded, providing crucial technical support for the construction of smart theaters and boosting the high-quality development of China’s performing arts industry.
